Brilliant Corners - POOR mastering

Postby cocopop » Wed Dec 02, 2009 9:01 am

Oh, my gosh! Could please someone at Cherry Red supervise / monitor the masters BEFORE they are sent to the pressing plant?

The Brilliant Corners CD should have been a wonderful release... but, again, the mastering is HORRENDOUS. Have you listened to track 4 "Southern Mystery"? The sound slows down a few times as if you were using a dodgy turntable.

Bad. Very bad.

Glad I passed on this one. Cherry Red must think their customers all have tin ears or something, this seems to be a problem across the board for their reissues lately. It's a pity as they have access to such a great back catalogue. And, of course, no one ever comes here to respond, apologize or otherwise acknowledge any issues. Tsk...

Hello Cocopop & Mr. Odd,
Sorry to hear you have been disappointed by some of our mastering lately. Of course we don't think our customers have tin ears. We think they have great ears & fantastic taste in music.
We are all incredibly passionate music lovers here at Cherry Red & take great pride, care & attention in what we do.

In the case of of Brilliant Corners, members of the band were involved in the whole reissue process & sadly there were no original master tapes to work from. Because of this we had no option but to do a vinyl transfer & the members of the band involved were happy with the end result.

I hope this sheds some light on your complaint. We endevour to respond to all queries, suggestions & complaints on the forum.

All the best,
The Cherry Red Head
